Why choose custom photography?

Hello there! I am Maggie Nunez, an on-location, natural light photographer in Los Angeles, California and it’s surrounding areas!  I love photographing fresh faces as well as capturing each client’s unique personality and preserving it as photographic art.

I strive to offer my clients more than just a simple photography experience… I offer custom photography.

What is custom photography? I’m glad you asked! Check this out!

I always try to educate my clients about custom photography because let’s face it… it’s hard to find! I am not talking about the mall “studio” or the photographer down the street that will charge you $100 and give you a CD of your images while sending you on your way. That is NOT custom photography.

Custom photography is about art, professionalism, and client service. When you decide to invest with me, you’re investing in a lifetime experience. From the very beginning you’ll notice a huge difference. You’re not some customer that I’ll forget about tomorrow. You and I will discuss exactly what you want out of your portraits. Do you want them to look like a magazine shoot? Are you nervous about what to wear? Do you want to make sure that you are shot from flattering angles? These are all questions that I answer before every single one of my shoots. I spend time with my clients to make sure they get exactly what they want. Before our session, we will meet to discuss details of your custom photo session and I’ll provide you with information to ease your anticipation before we meet for our shoot. We’ll discuss what to wear for your specific portrait session, tips and tricks to get the most out of your shoot and so much more. I’m there to guide you every step of the way.

Where do sessions take place?

Where ever you want! My goal is to photograph you as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Want to venture out away from the home? There are so many gorgeous locations in Los Angeles county. What about a park your family goes to frequently? Even the tall over grown field down the street can be perfect if the light is hitting it right. Let’s chat about your family’s likes and dislikes, your day to day, and this will lead us to the perfect location!

Mini Sessions are at a predetermined location and date.

How long before I get to see my images?

Session proofs will be available 2-3 weeks after your session. I will let you know at the time of the session how long you should expect to wait to see your finished images.

How will I order my prints?

I will notify you when your images are ready and schedule an in-person ordering consultation. This is where I come to your house and walk you through the ordering process, showing you samples of products, cropping images right in front of you to ensure you like that photo at 16 x 20 vs. 16 x 24, and helping you measure wall space to configure a wall display that will work for your home. The purpose of an in-person consultation is to ensure that you are 100% happy with what you have ordered, not to sell you products that you do not need or want.

Every person who orders in person says that it was so much easier than trying to put their order together alone, in front of a computer screen. They appreciate my guidance through the process.

Do you sell digital images?

Yes. You can buy individual digital images or all the images from your session on a USB drive as part of a Print Collection.

That said, shooting your session, handing over the digital images and then simply bidding you farewell is simply not the focus of my photography. I spend time getting to know you and your family, and our session is focused on telling the story of your family through the capture of those moments, expressions, and details. The greatest impact from those images comes when they are shared together in an album, storyboard, photo box, or art display on your wall. This is something that simply cannot be replicated by a window of thumbnails generated by your computer.

In addition, when was the last time you whipped out a USB or CD of images (some computers no longer come with disk drives) and crowded the family around a computer screen to look at them? In reality, most DVDs or USBs of digital images sit in a drawer somewhere forgotten. Add to that the time and expense of ensuring your photos remain backed up on multiple media (and, over time, transferring them to latest technology) and you can see that prints and albums have more enduring impact than digital images.

Why should I print my photographs through you?

When a photographer artistically edits an image from a session, they are changing what was captured within the camera and artistically editing it by manipulating the coloring and lighting of the image. After all, that is probably why you chose to work with a professional photographer.

When a consumer prints an image from their camera, they are (usually) taking it straight out of camera (what photographers refers refer to as SOOC) and printing it. consumer print labs are color calibrated for SOOC images, which are typically cooler in color and lacking contrast- so they add warmth and contrast to the photos. If you send you professionally edited images (which have been adjusted professionally for color, contrast, exposure etc..) to a consumer lab, they will still add warmth and contrast even though the photo doesn’t need it. The result? A print that looks NOTHING like the beautiful images that you saw on your screen. I only print with a selection of professional print labs for which my computer has been calibrated, ensuring the most color-accurate reproduction of your images as possible. I also ensure all my prints are luster coated, protecting them from dust and sticky fingers, and all prints 11×14 and larger are mounted for extra durablity.

What kind of products do your clients purchase?

I only offer the highest quality print products from the nation’s best professional print labs, My clients favorite products are canvas gallery wraps, customized image boxes that contain all the photos from your session, and a family album or photo book.

I am constantly in search of fun new products to offer my clients. I will be adding to products offered this upcoming year.

I’m not photogenic and do not like taking pictures, will you help pose us?

No need to worry, many people feel they are not photogenic but when they are presented with their images are pleasantly surprised how well they came out. I take the time pose you in positions and lighting that is flattering to you. My goal is to create beautiful images for your family that you will treasure for years to come.
